Long Wool DSS

Introduction

This program is for use when some mobs are found to have lice and may need treatment before shearing.

It estimates the increase in lice population and wool damage that might occur before shearing and compares the cost of loss if the sheep are not treated with the cost of treatment.

The user can then decide if it is worthwhile treating the sheep or leaving them untreated until shearing.

Long wool treatment will not eradicate lice, so even if the sheep are treated before shearing, they will also need treatment after shearing (see Products for options).

Rubbing can be due to a variety of causes. Rubbing sheep should be closely inspected to see if lice can be found. If lice have not been seen then it is essential to check whether rubbing may be due to other causes. Some sections of this program will not be valid if the rubbing is not caused by lice.

Contact with lousy sheep

If some sheep are showing signs of rubbing then this is a more reliable indicator of lice numbers than dates of contact with lousy sheep. Only enter dates here if contact is known but no sheep are showing signs of rubbing or wool damage.
